Dr. Inge-Marie Velstra is a scientist at the Clinical Trial Unit of the Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil. She qualified with a Bachelor’s degree as an occupational therapist from the College of Amsterdam, Department of Occupational Therapy in 1990. Since then she has gained experience in management, organisation and teaching and was operationally involved in projects that aimed at improving clinical quality. Due to her professional experience in acute SCI care, hand therapy and rehabilitation, and the treatment and assessment of patients, she became interested in obtaining a more professional approach in the scientific area and obtained a Master’s in Health Service Research at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (NL). Her main research interests are rehabilitation, upper limb recovery, upper limb tendon transfers, outcome measures and outcome research following cervical spinal cord injury. Inge-Marie’s PhD thesis focused on the assessment and rehabilitation of upper limb function in individuals with cervical spinal cord injury and supported under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Armin Curt, Balgrist University Hospital, Spinal Cord Injury Center.
